The Mountains to Sea Trail crosses the entire state of North Carolina, covering approximately 1,000 miles. Currently it is an amalgamation of trails, roads, and bike paths; eventually there will be a continuous footpath from the coast of North Carolina to Clingman’s Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Sections 7 and 8 of the MST pass close to our bed and breakfast inn Asheville. It visits the North Carolina Arboretum and crosses the French Broad River. It runs parallel to the Blue Ridge Parkway and comes close to the Folk Art Center. It then climbs 3,500 feet from Asheville to Craggy Gardens, where the rhododendrons thrive, and on to Balsam Gap.
There are several to the MST trailheads near our North Carolina bed and breakfast. Take a short walk, or bring plenty of snacks and water and spend the day on the MST.
